Papers: Target Selection and Predictive Aiming

The fighting in Sky Battletron X faced a key issue: hitting a moving target in space is actually quite difficult. We needed a way to assist the player in aiming, which also implied we needed a method to determine which target the player wants to hit.

In response to this, I wrote two papers. The first, Best Target Selection for Auto-Aiming, outlines a method of selecting a target that is most likely the target the player wants to hit. The second, Predictive Aiming for Moving Targets, derives an algorithm for hitting a moving target.

Both are written in LaTeX using LyX, the former having images generated programmatically in SciLab.

The result was perfect: if desired, a moving target could be hit precisely every single time, without error. Each paper may be downloaded in PDF form, or viewed below:
